This drama production tells the story of a not so typical Cape Flats family. 5 daughters who are “given to fly” with their father, SIDNEY, who is scarred by the hurts and disappointments of an oppressive past. His only reference to life is the flats, and his own painful experiences. SIDNEY struggles to understand the magnitude and extent of the dreams and aspirations of his daughters. But the social issues plaguing the Cape Flats, and the home of the Jacobs Family, are not only limited to the financial limitations of many families, but also the atrocities of violence faced on the streets and within the four walls of many homes.
Filled with lots of humor, street-wise witt, and high-energy singing and dancing this production promises to be great entertainment, whilst bringing us to a greater sense and awareness of who we are, and where we are positioned in the not so New South Africa.
Our next Given To Fly production (Thurs 12 Dec 2013 @ 7:30PM) is themed “Above The Turbulence” and takes place at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone, Cape Town. Whilst many of fundamental themes are touched on, we’re presenting our show with a few extra twists. This time, Project 021 has an even bigger cause to raise funds through ticket proceeds, in order to grow our current projects as well as assisting in additional Public Benefit Projects.
Previous Given To Fly Events:
The Given To Fly Production took place at the Bellville Civic Centre on 27 April (Freedom Day) at 7:30pm. Not only was it a fantastic show, with reviews still pouring in on our Facebook Page, but for the first production and launch of Project 021, it was completely sold out by the time the stage doors went open! So if you would like to be part of our next production, or would like to assist in any way possible, then please contact us using the contact information on the CONTACT US page.
